Crowd Safety Steward – Watford

Description

We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable Event Stewards to join our team based in Watford. As an Event Steward, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of supporters attending matches.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the matchday atmosphere while helping to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for fans, staff, and visitors. The role is typically casual or part-time, and flexibility is essential as shifts mainly take place during evenings, weekends, and matchdays.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Maintain a smart, alert, and visible presence around the stadium.
  • Conduct pre- and post-event safety checks to ensure compliance with safe working procedures.
  • Welcome, assist, and direct supporters and visitors entering the stadium.
  • Check tickets and ensure the correct entry points are used.
  • Ensure that prohibited or restricted items are not brought into secured areas of the venue.
  • Monitor crowd movement and behaviour, identifying potential issues and taking appropriate action.
  • Respond to incidents or emergency situations and report any concerns to supervisors or control.
  • Help ensure the safety of spectators, staff, and facilities during events.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Professional, reliable, and able to present a smart and approachable appearance.
  • Confident in communicating with large groups of people.
  • Able to stay calm and act responsibly in busy environments.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and standing for long periods.
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and matchdays.

 

Desirable qualifications:

  • Level 2 Spectator Safety Qualification (or willingness to work towards it).
  • ACT Awareness Certificates.
  • Previous customer service or stewarding experience is beneficial but not essential.

Additional

  • Minimum shift: 5 hours

  • Typical hours: Weekends and evenings (matchdays and events)

  • Ability to commute to Watford required

  • Commitment to scheduled events is essential

 

Pay rate: £12.21 per hour (subject to change due to increase in national minimum wage as of 1st April 2026)
