SGC Security Services were appointed to provide security services for a major critical infrastructure project in the North of England.
Operating within a complex and evolving environment, the project required a security solution that could adapt alongside changing site activity and emerging risks. What began with a core security guarding requirement developed into a wider integrated security solution, combining 24/7 security personnel, perimeter patrols, security technology and responsive incident management.
At the outset, SGC deployed two experienced security officers, supported by an electric vehicle for site and perimeter patrols.
With two officers on duty at all times, the team provided a consistent 24/7 security presence focused on protecting people, assets and the continuity of site operations.

The use of an electric patrol vehicle also supported the client’s environmental objectives while allowing officers to maintain a visible and responsive presence across the site.
The security requirement evolved considerably as the project progressed.
During periods of high activity, traffic volumes exceeded 300 vehicles per day. This required consistent observation, verification and communication between SGC officers and the client team.
As traffic levels later reduced, the security focus shifted towards increased perimeter monitoring. SGC adapted the patrol strategy accordingly, increasing patrol frequency to as many as 10 patrols per day when required.
This flexible approach enabled the security provision to respond to changing risks and operational priorities without compromising the continuity of the service.
During an early phase of the project, the client faced an unexpected challenge when a critical high-value delivery was brought forward significantly from its original schedule.
The area did not yet have the physical infrastructure or surveillance required to protect the asset, creating an urgent need for additional security measures.
With an established on-site presence and working relationship already in place, SGC was able to respond quickly.

The solution provided the client with additional protection without the need to coordinate multiple security suppliers.
Technology formed an important part of the wider security strategy.
Motion-detection cameras supported perimeter monitoring, while live operational reporting allowed incidents and concerns to be recorded and communicated quickly.
During one patrol, officers identified that a section of perimeter fencing had been cut. The issue was immediately logged through the reporting system and escalated for investigation.
Relevant stakeholders were contacted promptly, enabling a coordinated response and providing a clear audit trail of the incident.
Combining security officers, patrols and technology allowed SGC to maintain active oversight of the site while supporting faster decision-making when incidents occurred.
Regular communication with the client remained central to the service throughout the project.
Weekly communication helped SGC and the client review security risks, traffic management, perimeter integrity and changing operational requirements.
SGC management also provided additional on-site leadership cover when required, helping to maintain continuity and consistent service standards.
Officers continued to undertake relevant refresher training alongside their core security training, including site-specific areas such as spill response. This helped ensure the team remained prepared for the wider requirements of working within a critical infrastructure environment.
The performance of officers working on the contract was also recognised through both internal SGC recognition and positive recognition from the client.
