Public trust and confidence in private security

At the end of January the SIA released into the public domain the findings of some research conducted by BMG Research. The first of its kind, this research outlined survey results taken from a “representative sample of 2,600 UK adults in 2022 and 2023”. The focus? Public trust and confidence in private security.

As a security services company ourselves, SGC were very interested in the results of the survey which were as follows:
• 6 in 10 people agree that they trust security professionals
• 7 in 10 people agreed that security professionals are necessary to maintain order and improve public safety

With an average of 40% of UK adults (according to this research) being distrustful of private security it is important to consider why that may be. Unfortunately it often links back to one or two negative experiences where a security guard or steward did not stick to best practice.

At SGC Security Services, as well as our core values, we implement a deep level of respect into our day to day operations. By respecting each other and any members of the public we might come into contact with our interactions are more likely to go smoothly as it promotes a culture of understanding and, eventually, trust. To ask to search someone’s bag at a venue can make a huge difference in comparison to simply demanding.

SGC also utilise our in-house training department to ensure that all of our staff members meet the training requirements for their role. Dependant on role, this can lead to individuals attending training courses based around areas such as conflict management – where the aim will always be to keep everyone as calm and safe as possible.

From our crowd safety staff to our security guards based on sites, SGC Security Services are a security company who you can trust with your safety.
